No-Cost Wardrobe Organisation Tricks

The old saying about how they’re not making any more land applies to closets as well: They’re not making any more of them (at least not in your house). Your clothes, however, are a different story: They’re not only making more of them every day, but you’re buying more of them every day. This is the sort of equation that can’t be solved, or so it seems, and that’s how you wind up with shoes in the oven and your jewellery in the freezer.

You might think your only solution to this problem is to hire someone to do professional wardrobe designs for you, or to buy a kit and struggle to make it fit in your space. But wardrobe organisation doesn’t require a fancy degree or a lot of special stuff: There are plenty of opportunities for DIY wardrobes organising, and you have all the materials in your house right now (possibly in the trash).

Wardrobe Organisation Idea: Soda Can Tabs

Your recycling bin is overflowing with diet cola cans and wine bottles. One of these is useful for making your closet work twice as hard (hint: not the wine). The pull-tabs on your soda cans are made of sturdy metal and are already punched with two holes. Pull them off your cans, slide one end over your existing hangers in your wardrobe, then hang a second hanger from the tab. Voila! Two items of clothing hung in the same vertical space as one. You just doubled your closet space by using soda cans.

Wardrobe Organisation Idea: Shoebox Drawer Organisers

Drawers are always a challenge, whether we’re talking professional wardrobe installation or DIY wardrobes. Things get smashed in and forgotten. But instead of buying a prefab drawer organiser, just use some old shoe boxes. They fit into most drawers nice and snug, often two at a time, and keep things separate and neat.

Wardrobe Organisation Idea: Shower Curtain Rings
If you’re like everyone else on the planet, you probably have a ton of plastic shower curtain rings lying around, because they sell them by the hundreds when most people only need about ten at a time. These can be used to turn a single hanger into a mighty multi-hanger for scarves, ties, belts, or anything else that otherwise takes up a ton of room. Just click them into place on the rung of a hanger and use 10-12 of them to hang items, and you just made space in your drawers, shelves, and floor magically appear.

There are plenty of great ideas in your trash, your junk drawer, and your garage for making your closets work harder than ever. Get creative and increase your storage as if by magic!

How to Choose Mirrored Wardrobe Doors

Mirrored wardrobe doors are a popular option for those looking for a sliding door wardrobe for their bedroom or bathroom. They come in a variety of choices and can add a sense of style and functionality to any room. Because mirrored wardrobe doors double as full-length mirrors, you will save yourself wall space that would otherwise be dedicated to mirrors. Mirrored doors can also give the illusion of a larger room, making even the smallest room appear much larger. They are great for dark rooms as they reflect ambient light, amplifying even the dimmest lamp. When choosing mirrored doors, you have many options to consider. What is the best way to choose mirrored doors for your wardrobe?

Frame

One of the major considerations for wardrobe doors is the type of frame they will be in. All sliding door wardrobes require a frame for the door, but this frame does not have to be the same for every door. Some frames can be larger and more noticeable, creating a contrasting effect between the door and the wall, while others are thin and nearly invisible. Frames can be made of a variety of materials, including bright silver aluminum and standard aluminum, and white birch. Mirrored door frames can also be a painted a variety of colors to match the room and decor.

Frameless?

Another great option for mirrored doors is a frameless mirror. Frameless mirrored doors create an uninterrupted mirror on a sliding door wardrobe. Contrary to their title, frameless mirrored doors are not actually frameless. Instead, they have a very thin profile boarder that is barely noticeable. This creates a very sheik, modern effect.

Which Style Is Best?

Determine which style of frame is best for your wardrobe can be difficult. All frames as well as the frameless option are efficient and durable. You will not find them breaking after ‘too much’ use, nor will you find them difficult to clean. So if efficiency and durability is all you care about, any option will do. However, most people also want to choose a mirrored door wardrobe that fits with their personal style and taste. Therefore you will want to ensure that regardless of whichever door you choose, it still matches the decor and style of the room, while still serving to be functional for you. If you like the illusion of a larger room, perhaps the frameless mirrored doors are best, as they will give an uninterrupted reflection. If you prefer that the mirrors pop out of the wall, perhaps the white birch frame is a better option for you.

The most important way to decide on a sliding door is to choose one that you will love.

Maximize the Closet space you have

Maximizing the closet space in any home is the dream of every proud Australian home owner and something we also strive to achieve. The popular range of ventilated shelving systems has been achieving this quest for the past twenty years to the delight of many owners. Whilst extremely robust and durable this lightweight system has satisfied all requirements of the Australian building industry for shelving and its components.

The design features of the wire shelving contains a range of storage bins and shelves that allow them to be stacked or fitted with slides for easy comfortable retrieval of the clothes. The customized wire shelving is further adaptable to fit into corners and sections of the wardrobe previously rendered useless. Different components supplied in the range of ventilated shelving allows for the storage of accessories that previously cluttered and gave the wardrobe a disorganized appearance. The retrieval of goods with conventional shelving was both difficult and time consuming.

The practical application of ventilated shelving in certain environmental conditions will totally eliminate mould as the vents in the shelves allow air flow in the wardrobe. The further utilization of ventilated shelving for the storage of shoes on the especially design shoe racks makes for increased capacity and adequate ventilation. Using the range of stackable wire shelving in the wardrobe will ensure that the area looks organized and neat.

Maximizing of the closet is further enhanced with the use of trouser hangers that will accommodate pants and jeans crease- free and ready to wear. The wire shelving system has the advantage that you can fit two rails in a space previously occupied by a single rail. This allows the user to increase the capacity without having to extend the wardrobe. The wire shelving system has components to accommodate even shorts and t-shirts on specially created shelving.

With the clever use of the ventilated shelving components the creative home owner can double the storage capacity of their existing wardrobes without having to rebuild or enlarge the current units. The wire shelving components will also make the wardrobe modern and functional and allow the home owner access to clothes previously hidden or packed away under other clothes.

The concept that this system was designed for is easy of access and to increase the existing space by utilizing areas that was difficult to reach. The stylish colours of the system will complete the transformation of the wardrobe.

Avoiding Jealousy Between Your Car and Your ‘Stuff’ For Space in the Garage

Your car is not happy. For quite a while now, he has been relegated to the curb, continually exposed to the heat and cold, the rain and snow, and random baseballs from little neighborhood kids who don’t yet have a good throwing arm. He sits there envious of all the various “stuff” living in the space that was originally created for him – the garage. He was willing to share the space at first, but eventually, the “stuff”multiplied and spread, where finally, sharing wasn’t an option anymore – and he was kicked out to accommodate the never-ending mess. But it’s just not your car that wishes for space in the garage, but you as well. Each time you enter it, you are lost in a sea of unorganized piles, and it takes either hours to find the item you are searching for, or you just never find it at all.

Organizing your garage may seem like a daunting task, but if you dedicate just one day to it, the time you will ultimately save looking for things will be extremely rewarding, and much less stressful. Before the big organization day, it is highly recommended you purchase some shelving units, hooks of various sizes, baskets and bins, as well as a label gun or permanent marker. Then, on the day you begin your new garage storage task, the very first thing you need to do is completely empty out the space, so you have a clean slate to begin your garage storage experience. Once all items are out in the front yard, it’s time to make piles. These piles should be organized as this:

· Things to be thrown away.
· Things to donate to thrift stores and charity, or to sell.
· Seasonal items, such as holiday decorations, wrapping paper, boxes, etc.
· Sporting equipment
· Gardening and landscaping supplies
· Tools
· Kids toys, bikes
· Beach or camping equipment
· Any other appropriate categories you feel necessary

Creating an Optimal Garage Storage Space

After deciding on items you no longer need or use, discard them appropriately, either in the trash or donating them. Keep in mind that any high-priced items you no longer use can be placed on eBay or Craigslist, or sold at a garage sale, and the money you make from these sales can be used to start a vacation fund, or for any other reason. Next, use those bins and baskets to place loose items, by category, such as a bin filled with Christmas items, one for sporting equipment such as baseball gloves, balls, Frisbees and skateboard pads. Or if you prefer, you can choose to organize allequipment categorized byits sport, such as one bin for all basketball equipment, one for all football equipment, etc. Do this with all the small items you have, and be sure to label each bin as to what it contains.

Hang as many shelves and hooks as you can. These will be useful for the items you frequently use and need quick access to. Hooks are perfect for hanging tools, sporting helmets, ladders, shovels, rakes, skis and even bicycles. It’s important to keep all items the children frequently use on the lowest shelves and hooks, so they can access these items by themselves. Place any toxic or dangerous items, such as paint and pesticides, as well as items you do not use often, on the highest shelves. The trick is to make your garage storageas easy to retrieve the things you need as possible. With this careful structure, looking for a screwdriver, or the beach pails and shovels, will take no time, or anxiety at all.

Many organizational stores offer garage storage packages, which feature shelving units, wire baskets, drawers and cabinets. If this is something your budget allows, it can be quite worthwhile to invest in one of these. These packages come in many sizes, and can be tailored to your needs, and are quite similar to closet organizers, just on a larger scale. Perhaps the money you make selling all the items that have been sitting in your garage unused for years will offset the price of one of these garage storage units.

At the end of the day, your garage will be expertly organized, with every item in its place. It’s critical that for it to stay this way, each and every time you use an item, you place it back exactly where it belongs. You will not only be delighted seeing all your items organized and out of the way, but thrilled with all the new space available. And what could you possibly do with all this new space? There’s a car who has been feeling a little neglected lately parked out front that would just love being “garaged” once again, and he doesn’t mind at all sharing all this nice, new clean space!

Closet Solutions That Will Never Again Have You Claiming, “I Have Nothing to Wear!”

To many people, especially women, a closet is an extension of our identity.  We take enormous pride in what we wear and how we present ourselves.  An empty closet is similar to a blank canvas, just waiting to be painted, and how we fill it, and arrange the numerous clothes, shoes and accessories, can paint a picture, one both beautiful and functional.  For some of us, sadly, that “painting” ends up resembling   the drawing of a 5 year old – messy and with no flow or character, which screams confusion and stress.  Knowing how to create a functional, well-flowing and easy-to-use closet will not only be beautiful to look at, but ease the daily stress of answering the age old complaint – “I have nothing to wear!”

Creating your perfect closet requires a little prep work.  First, it is essential that you remove every single item in your closet, and begin the downsizing process.  For many of us, we hang on to many items we haven’t worn in years, or no longer fit us.  This hinders our ability to have a functional closet space.  You must be willing to rid yourself of all items of clothing, shoes and accessories you have not worn in a year or more.  For items in poor shape – discard them.  For all other items you don’t use, either donate them to thrift stores or charity, or sell them at a yard sale or at a consignment shop.

Start Creating a Streamlined, Functional Closet Space

Once you are left with all the items you still wear and realistically plan on wearing, start organizing these items in piles.

·         Pants and jeans

·         Skirts

·         Dresses

·         Shirts and blouses

·         Suits

·         Jackets

·         Sweaters

·         Frequently worn shoes

·         Shoes you don’t wear often

·         Belts

·         Scarves

·         Tights, pantyhose and socks

·         Hats

·         Handbags

Many closets are small.  But there are numerous, inexpensive ways you can actually create more space.  One of these solutions is to add another rod or two.  You can do this by adjusting the height of the existing rod, either a little higher or lower, then installing an additional rod above or below that.  This allows you to double your hanging space, and is best used for shirts, jackets, skirts and other shorter garments.  You can also add a smaller width bar at the top of one side of your closet to accommodate longer items such as dresses and hanging slacks.

Cubbies and Shelves Are a Big Part of the Solution

If you have the room, install as many shelves as you can, remembering to leave enough space to stack standard sized bins, baskets and boxes.  Also stack cubbies on the floor, to store your shoes and purses.  For those shoes you wear only on special occasions, or are seasonal, such as boots, store these in clear plastic bins and keep hidden under your bed.  Plastic, clear bins are perfect for storing folded sweaters, and other clothes not worn every day.  Stack these at the top of your closet shelves, and always keep your most used items closer to the bottom of your closet for easy access.

You can purchase hangers that hold more than one garment.  Many of these special hangers hold up to six items, and hang at a downward angle, allowing you to hang more items in your closet than you could only hanging one garment per single hanger.    Hooks are ideal for hanging purses, belts and scarves.  If your closet has the space, it is a very useful idea to put either a small dresser against the back wall, or purchase a rolling cart, similar to those that hold office supplies.  These wonderful storage spaces on wheels have at least three drawers which are perfect for holding undergarments, hats, folded jeans, or even jewelry and belts, and all you have to do is simply roll it out and access what you need.

No matter how small your closet is, there are so many ways you can create functional space to store much more than you thought possible.  With every item in its place, it will be easy every single morning to pick beautiful outfits, and never again will you have to declare that you don’t have a thing to wear.  You always have had something to wear – but with a messy, disorganized closet, you just couldn’t see it.  With some simple closet solutions, your closet can become that gorgeous painting – one to be admired every day of your life.

Importance of Wardrobe Solutions

It’s been argued that your wardrobe isn’t very vital or important, that it’s just a place to store your clothes, and any time or thought put into it is all vanity and first-world problems and all that. This is an incredibly short-sighted and wrongheaded concept, though. Sure, finding wardrobe solutions may not be a cure for cancer, but designing, organising and maintaining your wardrobe is a lot more important than you might think at first blush.

Value Your Time

First of all, wardrobe solutions can give you more time in your day. If you’re not spending immense amounts of time searching through disorganised and hidden items every day, you can take back valuable – priceless – minutes for use elsewhere. Even five extra minutes every day might make the difference between achieving your goals and being frustrated.

Value Your Stuff

The next way the right wardrobe solutions can make a huge difference in your life is by allowing you to actually use the stuff you buy. How often have you come across something expensive and nice that you forgot you even owned and never wore? Chances are the answer is “too often”. A well-designed and maintained wardrobe prevents that from happening, because all of your stuff is right there in sight and easy to find.

And it’s not just about finding your things – it’s about storing them properly. You spent good money on those clothes, are you going to treat them carelessly? Properly hung, properly stored clothing hold their value longer and serve their purpose longer, meaning you spend less on replacements and look better every day. Are we seriously still doubting the value of a well-designed wardrobe?

Take your solutions for the wardrobe seriously and you will be rewarded with more time and, by virtue of more durable clothes, more money. It’s win-win.

Organise Your Life with Wire Shelves

Life gets messy. Sometimes it seems like life is mess – especially if you have kids, although adults can make a mess like nobody’s business too. And any plans to organise the entire house – your entire life – seem so unbelievably complex, with specific pieces of furniture or pieces for every single aspect of the house.

It doesn’t have to be that complex (and expensive). The affordable and simple solution that works to organise every room in the house – your entire life – are humble wire shelves.

Wire Shelves for The Win

These shelves have three huge advantages: They’re not expensive, and they are endlessly flexible. Here’s a quick rundown of how wire shelves can organise every room in your home:
  • Bedroom: In your wardrobe, wire shelves easily attach to the walls to create new storage – even to the wardrobe doors to eek out every inch of storage possible
  • Kitchen: In your pantry, these shelves install in a snap to bring order to your cereal boxes, condiments, and that chaos of plastic bags and random tins, and keep food off the floor where it can attract pests.
  • Office: Get all those papers, thumb drives, and books off the desk and within arm’s reach on the wall above.
  • Garage: Imagine an unbroken line of shelves on the walls, holding tools, screws, and everything else – you might even be able to park your car in there again!
  • Media Room: Get those DVDs, CDs, games, and video controllers off the floor while keeping them within easy reach and plain sight with some humble shelves.
With just a few dollars and a few minutes, you can get all that stuff up off the floor – and best of all, these shelves can always be reconfigured with just a few minutes to accommodate changing lives and changing stuff.
